Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Plan
Dec 2023 • Business
Lots of ancient musical instruments. They have shows periodically that you need to reserve tickets for. There is one sword on the 2nd floor that you should head up to see first because a line forms really early though the day.

Architecture Style
Feb 2020 • Family
The style of the architecture is a non-typical Hubei(Chu state) style. The architectural design enlightens the hubei's culture. A must go.

Hubei Provincial Museum in the Eyes of a Wuhan Local
Jan 2020
I am a native of Wuhan, and I often take some foreign guests to visit Wuhan. For me, Hubei Provincial Museum is: If you want to know the history of Wuhan, we will recommend you to Hubei Provincial Museum. The treasure of the treasures in the Museum are the bamboo slips used in the Qin Dynasty, the Sword of Goujian, the Chime bells from the Tomb of Marquis Yi of the Zeng State, and the Blue and White plum vase of the four loves in Yuan Dynasty. It is worth mentioning that, the chime of Marquis Yi is the most complete one in China. You can enjoy the rare chime show if you are lucky enough.

Not so interesting, but worth to visit if you're in Wuhan
Dec 2019 • Solo
The museum exhibits history of Hubei province. The artefacts are protected from visitors by glass, inscriptions are in Chinese and English, but on forth floor only in Chinese.
On the first floor you can buy some souvenirs, on the other floors even jewellery.
Be careful when you borrow audio guide from machine, because you pay 200 RMB as a deposit. You're supposed to return it before 5 pm. Even if you choose English, you may receive it in Chinese, however you'll be charged by 20 RMB. The main point is that it's not written in machine. It's actually cheating, because you pay for service, which you don't receive.

Great place to see
Nov 2019 • Friends
Well worth a visit if you are in Wuhan! It is very interesting with many different aspects of the regions history on show from the pottery and how it was made to the evolution of humans within China. This city was also important to the Chinese Revolution so there is a section devoted to the people of that.

It is free to enter and explanation signs are in a English and Chinese. You require your passport/official ID to enter. It is closed on Mondays.

One of China's best museums
Oct 2019
This museum includes thousands of items that belonged to the Marquis of Yi, who died in 433B.C.The tomb was excavated in 1978. The tomb contained the Marquis's lacquer coffin, his dog, concubines and thousands of wood, bronze and stone items. The most impressive possession included in the tomb was a very large set of bronze bells. There are regular performances by musicians who play the bells.

Terrific museum, wish I had more time
Oct 2019
We really enjoyed our visit here. We started by seeing a performance with ancient bells and other instruments. It was amazing what they could do, especially last number. I won’t tell more so as not to ruin surprise. We then went to museum, very well done, a recommended stop in Wuhan.

Great place to spend half a day!
Oct 2019
I actually ended up at the Hubei Provincial Museum by accident as I was going to another museum that was closed. The taxi driver recommended this one and he should get five gold stars for sending me to such a great place.

There is no question that the contents of the ancient tomb unearthed in the 70's is the highlight. I was captivated by the ancient musical instruments that were displayed in excellent expository manner. These displays are excellent although for an American visitor, it would be nice if there was more information written in English... well, I was in China.

However, the cultural wing was of equal interest to me because the art displayed gave me a feel of how the Chinese view their own culture. I left that display understanding the intended message that the Chinese people are a proud and very patriotic people, a feeling that is also conveyed when communicating with the locals.

It is free admission and I'd definitely visit this museum again if I ever return to Wuhan!
